The Day The Music Died

I will never forget the day that John Lennon died. I was sitting in the living room with my Dad watching TV, when the show we were watching was interrupted and they broke the news. I sat and watched as tears started streaming down my Dad's face. It was the first time I had ever seen my him cry.
You have to understand that my Dad is a HUGE Beatles fan, which trait has been passed along to me. Music has always been a very large part of my upbringing.
The Beatles are why my Dad started playing the guitar. He taught himself how to play after hearing their first song on the radio, and has played every day since he first picked one up over 40 years ago, and his band plays some killer Beatles covers.
I just wanted to do a simple, yet heartfelt, "shout out" to John: the poet, the artist, and the amazingly complicated man, who will be forever missed.

I honnest to god fell out of the bed that night so long ago yet it seems like yesterday. For the very first time in my life I didn't know how "We the World" would go on without John. Just like your Dad it was the Beatles that inspired me to want to play the guitar. Great post Jen. Thank you.

There is going to be a good program on Lennon tonight. A&E is showing it. I think I'm going to watch it, if not, I'll record it.

You're dad's band sounds pretty cool. I'd like to hear them sometime.

Sag Sis: What an honor it is to him that so many people still think of him to this day!

Kippy: Thanks for letting me know. I'll definitely watch it. It would be great for you to see my dad's band something. I'm biased, of course, but I think they're awesome.

Squirm: I am so thankful to my Dad for introducing me to so many great musicians that I otherwise wouldn't know about. Of course, by that, I don't really mean the Beatles - everybody knows them - but still...I have so many other faves that I wouldn't have had.

Snags: Amen Sista!

Where would we be in this world if we didn't have people like Lennon who challenged people's balance and inspired so many people to do what others say can not be done.

"Someone who says it can't be done, will usually meet someone who is already doing it."

Jen, I LOVE the Beatles! I grew up in the 70's, and my parents listened to the fab four a lot, so listening to their music now brings back good memories. I'll have to try and put up a post for John sometime tonight.

You've got a great site here; sorry your soon-2B-ex is such an ass! Hang in there!
